Scar Revision and Removal in Wichita, KS by Dr. Voge
Troublesome body or facial scars from disease, accident or surgery can make a person feel self-conscious and unattractive.
While no scar can be removed completely, board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Vanessa Voge, can minimize the scar’s appearance and improve function through scar removal surgery.
The severity of scars and what can be done to treat them depends on many variables, including the size and depth of the wound, the blood supply to the area and the thickness and color of your skin.
Scar Surgery in Wichita, KS
Scar revision is performed after the body has had time to heal itself. Frequently it can be performed as an outpatient procedure, allowing you to return home after the procedure. Dr. Voge will take the time to understand the complexity of your scars and create a treatment plan for scar reduction.
Dr. Voge uses a technique called layered closure. The first step, or layer, requires sub-dermal closure (below the skin surface) with absorbable or non-removable sutures. Layers of closure continue to build, concluding with closure of the remaining surface wound. Local anesthesia is administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure.
As you heal, remember the degree of improvement depends on the size and direction of your scar, the nature and quality of your skin and your post-op care. It is completely normal for your scar to look worse at first and to not see the final results of your surgery for a year or more.
Dr. Voge will discuss all your treatment options during your consultation. To request an appointment please call 316-263-0234 or fill out the form below today!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY TIME?
A: The initial healing phase of a surgical scar revision may include localized swelling, discoloration or discomfort and may take 1 to 2 weeks. Healing will continue for several weeks and as the new scar heals it will slowly refine and fade. It is important that the surgical incisions are not subjected to excessive force, abrasion, or motion during the time of healing. The final results of your scar revision surgery will be long-lasting, however it may take several months for your final results to become apparent and in some cases it may take a year for the new scar to fully heal and fade.
Q: WILL I STILL HAVE MY SCAR?
A: Yes. Although a scar revision procedure can provide a more pleasing cosmetic result, a scar cannot be completely erased.
Q: HOW MUCH DOES A FACE LIFT SURGERY COST?
A: Sometimes revisions can be covered by insurance. Call your insurance provider and ask them directly if it is covered by your plan. If it is for strictly cosmetic purposes the cost will depend on size and location but will range $500-$900.
