Xeomin® or Botox® for those pesky wrinkles

Xeomin® and Botox® are both injectable neuromodulators that temporarily block the nerve impulses of targeted muscles to paralyze muscle movements that cause wrinkles, therefore reducing or eliminating the wrinkles.

Each brand has a slightly different formulation of the same substance, bacterium Clostridium Botulinum, or Botulinum Toxin A. The main difference between Xeomin® and Botox® is that Xeomin® contains only botulinum toxin A. Since it does not contain any additives, it is considered a “naked injectable”. A benefit of this pure form injectable is that your body is less likely to become resistant to it. Xeomin® received FDA approval for aesthetic use in 2011.

Xeomin® is a great option if you are bothered by unsightly wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, or around the corners of your eyes. A few hours after it is injected, Xeomin® attaches itself to the nerve endings of your facial muscles. It can take up to ten days to fully block the movement of the muscle. Xeomin® is a temporary treatment that will need to be refreshed approximately every three months.
