Labiaplasty in Wichita

A woman’s inner vaginal lips (labia minora) may extend beyond the outer vaginal lips (labia majora). This may be their natural shape or the result of changes that occur with pregnancy that do not reduce after the baby arrives.

For some women, protruding inner labia can cause physical discomfort and aesthetic concerns. They may:

  • Have trouble maintaining personal hygiene or difficulty with urination.
  • Find it uncomfortable to wear tight-fitting clothing.
  • Experience pain or discomfort engaging in sexual intercourse.
  • Feel embarrassed by the appearance of their vagina.

Wichita patients can address these concerns through labiaplasty, a common surgery that reduces the size of the inner vaginal lips so that they are flush with or concealed by the outer lips.

Your Experience With Labiaplasty

Initial Consultation at Plastic Surgical Specialists

Dr. Voge and her staff are committed to individualized care in a professional medical environment. Whenever you come to our Wichita office, you will be greeted warmly and made to feel welcome. Your Clinical Specialist will get to know you, accompany you through every step of the process, answer the questions you have, and explain what you can expect in your treatment.

Once your nurse has taken your medical history and completed your paperwork, you will meet with Dr. Voge. She will discuss with you why you are considering labiaplasty and what you hope to accomplish with the procedure. An examination will allow Dr. Voge determine the extent to which your labia can be reduced and which surgical approach will best serve your needs.

Dr. Voge performs labiaplasty often with a center wedge excision method, but the exact procedure performed depends on the patient’s anatomy and her individual treatment objectives. The wedge method reduces excess tissue by removing a section from the center of each inner labia. Based on your anatomy and your desired outcome, Dr. Voge will determine which approach is most likely to meet your aesthetic goals. She will also explain what you can expect after surgery and during the recovery period.

If you are ready to move forward with labiaplasty, you can schedule your procedure that same day. If you need some time to think it over, you are welcome to call our office at a later date. Dr. Voge and all of our staff members want you to enter treatment with complete confidence in your decision.

On the Day of Your Labiaplasty

Patients will have their procedure at a local surgical center in Wichita. Surgery is performed under general anesthesia and generally takes less than one hour. Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure, which means that you can go home afterwards with no overnight stay. We recommend that you arrange to have a responsible adult drive you home a few hours after you wake up from the procedure.

During your surgery, Dr. Voge will:

  • Reduce and reshape your inner labia according to your treatment plan.
  • Use dissolving sutures that disappear on their own about two weeks after surgery. This eliminates the need to have them removed.
  • Administer a local anesthetic to minimize your discomfort following surgery.

When you wake up, you will wear a special sanitary pad and hospital garments, which you can swap for your own underwear the following day. Our staff will give you instructions for aftercare as well as medication to control any discomfort. Dr. Voge will see you back at Plastic Surgical Specialists in a week for your first follow-up appointment.

Your Recovery From Labiaplasty

Expect some soreness and swelling for the first three days. After that time, your discomfort should be minimal. Recovering from labiaplasty takes about six weeks, during which time you should avoid using tampons, having sexual intercourse, or doing any strenuous exercise.

Dr. Voge will see you back at her Wichita office about 6-8 weeks after your labiaplasty to confirm that your incisions are healing well. At this point, you can ease back into your normal routine and fully enjoy the physical and aesthetic changes that surgery has provided.
