Tummy Tuck in Wichita
Pregnancy and weight fluctuations can spread the muscles and stretch the skin of the abdomen. These changes may leave you with a loose flap of skin and pockets of abdominal fat that refuse to respond to diet or exercise.
Dr. Vanessa Voge provides Wichita patients with tummy tuck surgery to help them achieve a more contoured midsection. Often combined with liposuction, a tummy tuck tightens the skin and underlying muscles to create a slimmer, sleeker, and more toned appearance.

Your Experience With Tummy Tuck
When you arrive at Plastic Surgical Specialists for your tummy tuck consultation in Wichita, our friendly staff will greet you and make you feel welcome. You will meet your Clinical Specialist, who will lead you through the entire process and answer any questions that you may have.
After a nurse takes your medical history, you will meet Dr. Voge. To determine if tummy tuck is right for you, she will:
- Ask you what you would like to accomplish and which specific changes you hope to see.
- Explain in detail what tummy tuck can and cannot achieve.
- Describe the procedure and what you can expect during recovery.
In addition, you and Dr. Voge will discuss whether you are at or near your ideal weight. A tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure but a means of contouring the abdomen. If your goal is to have a more toned silhouette, you may be a good candidate for the surgery. If you are exploring options for weight loss, Dr. Voge may recommend other treatment methods.
Once you decide that you are ready, you can schedule your tummy tuck procedure that same day. If you need time to think it over, you are welcome to contact our office at a later date to plan your surgery.
On the Day of Your Tummy Tuck
Your surgery will take place on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Dr. Voge will perform the procedure at a local surgical center in the Wichita area. She will:
- Pull together the abdominal muscles that have separated, strengthening your midsection.
- Remove excess skin from the area of your belly.
- Use liposuction to enhance the contouring process, if needed.
- Place incisions in a way that will allow you to conceal scars beneath clothing.
When you wake up from surgery, your midsection will be bandaged, and you will be wearing an elastic binder that applies gentle pressure to the area. This promotes healing and should enhance your results. You will also have one or more drains in place to reduce swelling. Local anesthesia administered during your procedure should control discomfort for several hours, after which you can take pain medication as directed.
You should be able to go home a few hours after your surgery. You will return to Plastic Surgical Specialists in about a week for your first follow-up appointment with Dr. Voge.
Your Recovery From Tummy Tuck
After your procedure, you may feel tightness in your midsection and soreness for the first few days. Areas where you have had liposuction may be sensitive as well.
Most patients can control discomfort with pain medication. You should feel much better by about one week after surgery when you will see Dr. Voge at her Wichita office for your first follow-up visit. At that time, she will make sure your incisions are healing properly and will remove any drains. She will also give you a special gel that you can apply to help scars fade.
Dr. Voge advises patients not to lift, push, pull, or do any form of exercise, including yoga and swimming, for six weeks following surgery. These activities can interfere with the healing process and should be avoided to get the best results possible.
Continue to wear the elastic binder for two weeks, after which you can switch to Spanx or a similar control garment that applies gentle pressure to your abdomen. Most bruising and swelling should be gone within 4-6 weeks, at which time you can begin easing back into your normal daily routine. At 3-6 months, you should be able to enjoy the final results: a tauter, sleeker, and more aesthetically contoured abdomen.
